Print-Braille Books for Children

Long Island Talking Book Library has a small collection of print-braille books (sometimes called "twin vision books") for children. These books include the regular print edition of the book with braille overlays. They can be used by blind parents with sighted children, or sighted parents with blind children, or blind and sighted children together. They may also be used by sighted children who want to see what their favorite books look like in braille. In addition, LITBL has a special collection of tactile print-braille picture books for young blind children, and of Expectations, an annual braille anthology of current children's literature. Print-braille books, tactile print-braille picture books, and Expectations may be borrowed on inter-library loan through your local public library. The following titles are available:

    Expectations is an annual anthology of current children's literature in braille. These are generally text-only for older children, although there are some raised line and/or scented drawings. The SCLS/LITBL collection begins with the 1987 edition.
