Assistive Technology on Long Island Libraries |
The following libraries in Suffolk County had closed circuit television magnifiers, reading machines, and/or other "high tech" equipment for residents or students with visual impairments as of November 2001. Libraries that are not listed may have acquired equipment since that time; check with your local library. In addition, some libraries may permit non-residents or non-students to use their equipment.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Magnifiers
The following libraries have closed circuit television (CCTV) magnifiers, which are electronic devices that increase the size, contrast and readability of everyday reading materials. They generally enlarge standard print two to forty-eight times.

Reading machines are computerized devices
that scan conventional printed materials and read them out loud.

The following libraries have personal computers
with large print, voice, or other adaptive products. These computers
may provide access to the Internet, word processing software,
library databases, the library's catalog, etc. Contact your library
for more information.
