 The LITBL Collection

Over 95,000 professionally recorded books (approximately 50,000 different titles) are available to eligible Long Island residents.

Selected on the basis of their appeal to people with a wide range of interests, they include bestsellers, biographies, travel books, histories, social issues, science, how-to books, mysteries, romances, thrillers, and much more. Materials for children and young adults are also available, as are a limited number of titles in different languages.

These unabridged editions of popular fiction and nonfiction books are produced by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped on 1-15/16 ips 4-track cassettes that play on special cassette players.

Over 70 popular magazines are also available in alternative formats.

Registered borrowers can receive Talking Book Topics or Braille Book Review (bimonthly publications that describe new books added to the collection) as well as annual and specialized subject catalogs. These publications are available in large print, braille, audio cassette and other media formats. Readers can also search a comprehensive online catalog of all available titles.
